Crisis Pregnancy Centers

Women who are unsure whether to proceed with an unplanned pregnancy may find themselves at a so called “crisis pregnancy centers,” which purport to be women's health clinics but are actually run and funded by anti-abortion activists. These centers provide misleading information to vulnerable women in order to keep them from considering an abortion. They are often located near real women's health clinics in order to confuse women who think they are visiting a legitimate health care clinic, and many are staffed by ideologically motivated volunteers rather than health care professionals.

A 2006 study of CPCs across the country by Representative Henry Waxman found that CPCs give women misleading information such as “abortion causes infertility,” “abortion causes higher rates of breast cancer,” and “abortion causes depression.” In spite of their ideological agenda and misleading claims, CPCs have received tens of millions of federal funds since 2001.

To find an accredited abortion provider, you can rely on the National Abortion Federation.
